MODULE 3 OVERVIEW

Where pain becomes paresthesia.

Modules 1 and 2 focused primarily on pain conditions of the upper extremity, head, neck, lower extremity, and torso. Module 3 shifts the clinical focus to paresthesia-related disorders — the full spectrum of sensory disturbances including numbness, tingling, pins and needles, burning sensations, and shooting nerve pain.

Across four intensive days, participants develop expert-level skill in two distinct clinical domains: the identification and treatment of peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes using acupuncture needles to create space around compressed nerves, and a comprehensive approach to evaluating and treating peripheral neuropathy using evidence-based electro-acupuncture protocols.

PART 1 · DAYS 1 & 2

Peripheral Nerve Entrapment Syndromes

Learn to identify and treat 16 nerve entrapment syndromes across the upper and lower extremities — using acupuncture to create space around compressed nerves and resolve sensory disturbances and dysfunction.

PART 2 · DAYS 3 & 4

Peripheral Neuropathy

Develop a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating peripheral neuropathy — including CIPN, diabetic neuropathy, and autoimmune neuropathies — with standardized assessments and electro-acupuncture nerve regeneration protocols.

4-DAY SCHEDULE

Daily Curriculum

Day 1 Upper Extremity Nerve Entrapments 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Introduction & Overview of 16 Peripheral Nerve Entrapment Syndromes. Differential diagnosis and acupuncture treatment protocols for upper extremity entrapments. Participants learn to identify sites of compression or tension and apply targeted needling technique to decompress the nerve and restore sensory function

1. Scalene Entrapment (Thoracic Outlet Syndrome)

2. Radial Tunnel Syndrome

3. Posterior Interosseous Nerve Syndrome

4. Wartenberg Syndrome

5. Pronator Teres Syndrome

6. Anterior Interosseous Nerve Syndrome

7. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

8. Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

9. Guyon's Canal Syndrome

Day 2 Lower Extremity Nerve Entrapments 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Differential diagnosis and acupuncture treatment protocols for lower extremity nerve entrapments. Participants complete the full 16-syndrome curriculum and develop a systematic approach to lower extremity sensory presentations.

10. Psoas Entrapment

11. Meralgia Paresthetica

12. Piriformis Syndrome

13. Adductor Canal Entrapment

14. Peroneal Tunnel Syndrome

15. Anterior Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

16. Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

Day 3 Assessment & Diagnosis of Peripheral Neuropathy 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Participants develop a systematic framework for evaluating peripheral neuropathy in clinical practice.  Emphasis is placed on identifying cause and severity, selecting appropriate outcome measures, and establishing a baseline for tracking treatment response.

- Identify causes and pathophysiology of peripheral neuropathy, including:

  • Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN)

  • Diabetic Neuropathy

  • Autoimmune Neuropathies

  • Idiopathic Neuropathies

- Implement diagnostic and assessment methods for:

  • Determining neuropathy severity

  • Tracking symptom progression

  • Measuring treatment outcomes

- Apply standardized neurological testing and functional assessments to monitor patient progress

Day 4 Electro-Acupuncture & Advanced Clinical Management 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

The capstone day integrates electro-acupuncture protocols with advanced case management.  Participants apply assessment findings to individualized treatment plans through case-based learning and clinical applications.

- Apply evidence-based electro-acupuncture protocols to:

  • Improve local circulation

  • Promote nerve regeneration

  • Reduce neurogenic inflammation

  • Decrease pain and sensory disturbances

- Develop advanced treatment strategies for managing:

  • Balance impairments

  • Gait disturbances

  • Loss of fine motor function

  • Functional limitations associated with neuropathy

- Integrate assessment findings into comprehensive treatment plans through case-based learning  and clinical applications

Your Instructor:

Dr. Poney Chiang, PhD

Professor, York University · Founder, Neuro-Meridian Acupuncture Certification Program

Dr. Poney Chiang is a Professor at York University and the developer of the Neuro-Meridian Acupuncture approach — a post-graduate clinical framework that interprets the neurovascular system as the Jing-Mai system, integrating neuroanatomical precision with classical Chinese medicine channel theory. The NMA Certification Program is modeled after the Professional Practice Certificate program at York University and comprises 78 contact hours of lecture, demonstration, practical training, and clinical skills practicum.

All attendees must be licensed to practice acupuncture in their state and provide proof of malpractice coverage
